SUZANNE COREY-SAHLIN – VIOLA and GUNNAR SAHLIN – CELLO

Norwalk Symphony Orchestra

Stamford, Connecticut

The Symphony has a few husband-and-wife musician teams who are active in our ranks. Suzanne and Gunnar are the principal viola and cello players, and spend many additional hours with our education and outreach programs. Each has been with the organization many years – Suzanne since 1977 on the Violin, and 1983 on the Viola, and Gunner from 2002. Their professional lives are spent performing and teaching the next generation of string musicians. As Duetto Viello, they can be found sharing their talents at many local events and programs, including salons in their home and yard where they feature new works and artists. What do they do when they are not holding their instruments? Suzanne switched to viola when an opportunity to play in a small group at Carngie Hall unexpectedly came up in 1983. She felt that she found her true musical voice, sold her violing, and never looked back! Gunnar began playing cello at an early age in his hometown of Örebro, Sweden and spent summers at a music camp. He credits his love for the instrument and inspiration to these summers, sharing music daily with his peers. When he is not creating beautiful music, you can find him playing ping-pong or rollerblading in the local park! He was the Reference Librarian at Norwalk Community College for many years, and is currently learning to play the piano and taking lessons!
